In 1986 it was called the Commonwealth Games People's Marathon and held in June, a month ahead of the Commonwealth Games. This past week and a half the importance of published race results has been a hot topic in some running circles. Available only to British athletes, the athletes need to have run a marathon/ half marathon (as per race applied to) under a certain time limit. Further marathons were held in Edinburgh in 1986 and 1999. Thats my two cents anyway. Mere minutes after the race, I received a text congratulating me on my time. They emerged from their car looking unhappy and one said they would have big problems.
